It’s no secret that here at McQueens we’re fans of all things floral and adore the Dutchmasters style. That means we’ll use any excuse to have flowers in different parts of the home including the kitchen, where a jug of flowers on the table is a must. Taking it one step further, kitchen and bathroom designers and manufacturers, Kohler, have raised the bar by creating the most fabulous sinks inspired by the floral masterpieces of the Dutch golden age.
Bold floral patterns have always been popular in fashion, textiles, and prints, but Kohler have taken bold florals to a new level– with the bathroom sink! Named after the art movement that inspired the patterns, the new Dutchmaster sinks collection explores dramatic botanicals in lush and moody hues.
“We seized the opportunity to lead with a bold, dramatic, and romantic floral that invites curiosity and demands attention,” says Nancy Yusko, design studio manager for Kohler. “Like the Dutch master painters of the 17th century, we wanted to create intrigue through dramatic lighting to evoke a sense of mystery.”
The Midnight Floral pattern was designed in collaboration with florography artist Ashley Woodson Bailey. Bailey’s stunning photography, wallpaper, textiles and fabrics are known all over the world, and the Midnight Floral pattern features a moody arrangement of hellebores, fritillaries, ranunculus, and sweet pea flowers against an onyx backdrop. The rich, textural colours of these stunning flora offers a glimpse into a lavish garden.
“When I work with flowers, I live with them. I learn their personas, I look at colour palettes and how colours play – the textures and movements all play off of each other in really beautiful ways,” says Bailey.
