McQueens Flower School 20th Anniversary Celebration

We were delighted to have a special gathering at our HQ in Bethnal Green to mark the 20th anniversary of McQueens Flower School last week.

McQueens was established in 1991 by Kally Ellis, who was inspired to start a florist business after having a very vivid dream. The dream focused on a happy life surrounded by flowers but failed to add in the detail that McQueens would eventually become a well-known international luxury brand and employ a team of over 50 from a dedicated HQ based in the East End of London! Oddly, the school hadn’t initially been part of the plan, but McQueens Flower School was founded in 1998 due to overwhelming demand for students intent on learning more about the McQueens style and flower philosophy and continues to grow after 20 glorious years!

Kally Ellis, McQueens founder and MD takes up the story.

‘My journey with flowers was a bumpy one and it wasn’t all plain sailing during the early years of the business. I must admit, I did have a few moments where I questioned my sanity! But tenacity and graft will eventually conquer all, and the business started to grow. Once people start dot notice and talk about McQueens, the flower school was a natural progression and it had been wonderful to see the school flourish over the years, thanks to the hard work and commitment of our amazing tutors. It was wonderful to invite guests to the school for an evening’s celebration and I was delighted to welcome one of my favourite suppliers, Graeme Diplock of Zest Flowers, to the school as we have been avid customers of his from the very early days ‘

A celebration of British Flowers for a special class

We had a fantastic evening with gorgeous British grown flowers from Zest Flowers based at New Covent Garden Flower Market, delicious food provided by our friends at Able and Cole, and refreshments from Mirabeau wine and Fever Tree Mixers.

For the classes, students created a natural garden-style hand-tied bouquet with English grown roses, ammi, lavender, and a combination of seasonal foliage; these were complemented by a vase from Dutz Collection for the perfect summer indulgence to enjoy at home. And thank you to Aurelia Skincare for the beauty treats for all our lovely guests!
