We adore all things fashion here at McQueens. When we were invited to be part of the main Hunger Magazine fashion story in collaboration with fashion milliner Piers Atkinson, we, of course, accepted. Head of events, Emily Mathison, worked together with Piers to fulfil his dream of creating a fabulous Renaissance-style wig with flowers:
“Piers had a vision of a very grand, classical, Marie Antoinette-style wig (which we loved) and wanted it to be a shock of white with the extra tall ‘cones’ at the front. To emulate this traditional, voluminous wig, we used fluffy white hydrangea, frilly edged tulips, phlox, and paperwhites (narcissus) on a hand-made base of chicken wire. All in all, the wig took six hours to make and weighed over five kilos!”
Elsewhere in issue 14 of Hunger, the magazine redressed the balance of power — a selection of female talent offset the narrative as Hunger examined how power is portrayed in today’s society while examining the power of femininity through fashion and photography.
The cover starred Oscar-winning actress and star of Tomb Raider, Alicia Vikander, who appears in a 16-page feature shot by Rankin. Hunger also speak to transgender model and activist Munroe Bergdorf, breakouts star of Beach Rats Harris Dickinson, rising music stars Rex Orange County and Jessie Reyez and The Handmaid’s Tale actress Yvonne Strahovski.
