Colour me Happy: McQueens at the Wayfair Happy House

Here at McQueens, we love a colourful collaboration and this week we had the pleasure of providing the blooms for The Wayfair Happy House — a unique, one-day event showcasing an array of colour-inspired home decor with live demonstrations from celebrity chef Melissa Hemsley and wellness guru Michal James Wong. Our very own McQueens florist, Selina Kerley, was present throughout the day too, holding the fort in the ‘Colour me Happy’ living room where she gave visitors an introductory demonstration on conditioning and arranging flowers for the home, and keeping them looking tip top for longer.

“It was such an honour to represent McQueens and talk all things flowers with visitors to the Wayfair Happy House. Spending the day in the living room, where I was surrounded by colours, patterns and flowers was just such a joy.” – McQueens Florist, Selina Kerley

The very aptly named living room, which had been decorated head to toe with a vibrant mix of bright colours, patterns and soft furnishings, featured a truly spectacular floral fireplace design created especially for the day by Senior Events florist, Alison Lythgoe.

“The fireplace design was a true celebration of spring with lots of bright, clashing and uplifting colours. We used a mixture of Miss Piggy and Sweet Avalanche roses, statement Icelandic poppies, hot pink ranunculus, vibrant Craspedia and miniature pineapples. The look was fun, playful and just a joy to see in place among the colourful and eclectic interior decor.”

Alongside the fireplace, a floral cart had been created to accompany the fabulous furnishings, accessories and art throughout the room. “We stocked the cart with a variety of fun, seasonal flowers to create a unique focal point that would inject another layer of colour into the room” explains Head of McQueens Events, Emily Mathison. “The idea was to reflect the contrasting layers and clashing colours of the soft furnishings. It’s a trend we’re seeing more and more of with flowers and naturally, set to be very hot in interiors this season, too.

Elsewhere  in the Happy House, visitors were treated to a glimpse into a calm and serene study area complete with inspirational quotes; a swoon-worthy open-plan kitchen complete with a impressive spread whipped up by celebrity chef, Melissa Hemsley; a cosy snug with luxurious lighting; a romantic, candle-lit bathroom and a calm, zen-inspired bedroom hosted by meditation guru Michal James Wong.

“I’ve never seen anything like it, the whole house was just incredible” continues Selina. “Each room had a truly unique look and feel to it. Although I loved it all, the living room was definitely my favourite place to be. Maybe I’m biased (or maybe it was the upbeat Mexican music playing in the background) but the vibrant colours just made me so happy. Visitors couldn’t get enough of the miniature pineapples and the fireplace flowers were definitely the most Instagrammed area of the day— it was an absolute showstopper.”
