We are delighted to announce that after 26 years in the making, we have finally put the McQueens name to a gorgeous apron available in-store now. Created by apron artisans Enrich & Endure, we have long been seeking a wonderful British-made design created by a company that shares the same passion and attention to detail – well here it is! McQueens founder and MD Kally Ellis explains how the collaboration began.
‘Working with flowers was a massive learning curve for me when I first begin my adventure almost 27 years ago. I had been working in the marketing division of a French merchant bank and I gave up my job to work in an industry that I knew little about. My friends and family hid their concern with lots of enthusiastic encouragement but it was extremely hard at the beginning on so many levels. My twin sets and pearls were banished to the back of the wardrobe and replaced with much more practical clothing! I was surprised, like most who first start working in flowers, how working with nature plays havoc with your hands and clothes. I have many images of me throughout the years wearing ill-fitting aprons that were clumsy to work in and really weren’t best suited to working with flowers. So I am delighted we have joined forces with Enrich & Endure to come up with an apron that we can all be proud of. The E&E team were brilliant collaborators and understood the rigours of our industry with a sturdy, locally-produced linen garment that will get better with age.’
We spoke to Lorcan Quinn, one half of the founding sibling team at Enrich & Endure about the design of the apron.
‘We love the contrast that the team at McQueens chose with the grey main body of the apron and black straps, pocket detail and stitching for the McQueens logo. The main body of the apron is created from platinum grey Irish linen which is one of the strongest natural fibres known to mankind and can withstand the challenges of the busiest florist.”
“The straps have been designed for ultimate comfort, and it has a large lower pocket that is perfect for florists – plenty of room for wire, scissors, etc! It also has an inner small pocket perfect for the iPhone or Android user. The pockets are sewn with double-tracked stitching, two parallel lines of thread that protect the high-stress areas of your apron, reinforcing strength where it is needed most. We are honoured to collaborate with McQueens and to know our aprons are being worn every day by such talented creative people makes us extremely proud.”
