5 Long Low Floral Runners to Make You Swoon

A key factor when designing floral centrepieces (apart from looking fabulous) is making sure that seated guests can still see each other over the blooms. For some this might mean keeping centrepieces relatively reserved; at McQueens, however, we like to do things a little differently.

Sumptuously full, long low floral runners instantly transform any dining area into something truly spectacular, creating a show-stopping focal point that won’t interfere with the view — the perfect accompaniment to a well-thought-out seating plan. These opulent and elaborate centrepieces are hugely popular for lavish weddings, anniversaries, and similarly sociable celebrations. Hence, they make up a key part of our four-week vocational course at the McQueens Flower School, as senior school tutor, Diana Martinez, explains.

“We teach long low floral runners as part of our vocational course because it’s such a popular design with our clients, and so versatile. Made to a smaller scale you could use this technique to create spectacular mantlepiece flowers and garland effects. They’re perfect for opulent occasions and among other things, often become a major talking point — the ideal icebreaker, if you will!”

Above all, however, they’re simply stunning works of art, handmade with hundreds of stems of foliage and flowers and adaptable to almost any colour scheme of floral theme. Here, we’ve rounded up five swoon-worthy long low floral runners to inspire your next dinner party decor ideas.

Cool Blue and Violet Hues

Created with a combined base of striking blue and seasonal teal hydrangea, it’s the Ocean Song roses, Vanda orchids and delicate blue milkweed that elevate this striking runner to true star status.

Natural Whites and Greens

Proving that neutral colours can be fabulous, too, this natural runner with white hydrangea, tulips, veronica and seasonal foliage is a feast for the eyes and ideal for a more traditional affair.

Berry Nice

There’s no doubt what the talking point would be with this showstopper in the room! Created with an array of hot pink and magenta flowers and lashings of wild foliage, it’s the ideal runner for any event with a bohemian flair.

Zingy Oranges

Summoning up all the lovely warmth and joy of the changing seasons as the summer comes to a close, this bountiful beauty is a feast for the eyes with orange nutan flower, asclepias, and spray roses — delicately highlighted with a touch of peach ranunculus and lisianthus.

Pastel Delight

Last but not least, subtle colours meet sumptuous materials with lilac tulips, Ocean Song roses and cream pom-pom roses for a low runner with a delicately subtle and achingly sophisticated feel.
