McQueens the Blog: Highly Commended at Amara Blogging Awards

We were giddy with excitement when our very own blog was nominated for the Amara Blogging Awards and over the moon when we made the shortlist for the 2017 awards ceremony. The glittering event was held at the brand new Design Museum in Kensington and saw all shortlisted bloggers, judges and sponsor get together for the announcement of this year’s winners, hosted by interior designers and TV duo Sophie Robinson and Daniel Hopwood. Although we didn’t win, we were delighted to come away with a ‘Highly Commended’ accolade, which we later learned from one of the eight judges, meant that the decision had been very close indeed…

In order to be in the running, we needed votes to get us through to the shortlisted stage — we put a shout out or two on social media, and our friends and followers didn’t disappoint. At McQueens we have THE most amazing and loyal followers so we were delighted to receive the required votes and be ushered through to the shortlisted stage of the Amara Best Brand Blog Category.

Duncan McCabe, head of social media at McQueens, started McQueens the Blog over two years ago with the aim of sharing all the flowery stories across all the areas of operations at McQueens.

“We have five main departments at McQueens with the store, contracts, events, weddings and McQueens Flower School,’ explains Duncan. ‘We have an incredibly talented team of over 45  and there are blog-worthy stories to be shared every day. Our passion for flowers runs centrally throughout the blog, but we also include posts about art, design, lifestyle and interiors. The idea was to broaden the appeal of the blog and incorporate content that complements flowers. We cover a wide range of topics including interiors but we are thrilled that flower design should merit such a great award.’

Social media assistant, Selina Kerley, continues.

“Anyone who has ever written a blog will know how much hard work is involved, but with such a large team and with so much going on we are never short of anything to talk about. We enjoy broadening the scope of what we write about and we dedicate posts to other creators, artisans and brands with regular spotlight interviews and features celebrating some of our favourite Instagrammers of the Week. It’s a great way to discover talent and reach out to other creatives, including interior decor bloggers such as Kimberly Duran and Maxine Brady, who we were delighted to meet at the awards ceremony, too.”

The evening and the award ceremony was great fun and, although we didn’t win, we were extremely proud and absolutely delighted to have received a highly commended accolade – a fantastic achievement considering there were over 800 nominees across all categories.’

The evening attracted a lively crowd, delicious canapés and an epic goody bag that was so heavy it took a lot of gym time to get it home. The bag was crammed full of the most amazing and coveted goodies that will negate any need to do Christmas shopping for the extended family and will certainly add a bit of luxury to ‘Secret Santa’ this year.

A huge thank you to the Amara team and to our amazing and very fabulous followers for the votes!
