The season of hazy days, balmy nights, and lashings of strawberries and cream is well underway and the calendar of classic British events continues apace with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Ascot, Glastonbury and the Henley Royal Regatta all duly despatched – and we’re still weeks away from August bank holiday – hurrah! Summer is a remarkable time for flowers and our stores are crammed full of beautiful seasonal specimens that are guaranteed to delight. It’s the season of pinks, blues, purples and lilacs, and the choice available at the moment is unbelievable. Whilst we can’t rely upon the good old British weather, we do have the expert advice and exquisite taste of some of London’s finest florists here at McQueens so we asked them which McQueens bouquets they would recommend to make the most of the sultry summer season.
Caleb Goh, McQueens head of corporate events, chooses Britannia.
‘I love British grown roses at this time of year. They are not as cultivated as Dutch roses, but they have the most incredible scent. They are the perfect summer gift in my opinion.’
Andrea Bassoli, McQueens shop manager, chooses Mamma Mia.
‘Summer is more about the colour and pinks for me so this would be my first choice. I like a wilder looking bouquet with clematis, delphinium roses and a mixture of seasonal foliage.’
Diana Martinez, McQueens Flower School tutor, chooses Juno.
‘Peonies are a must for me during summer – they are one of my favourite flowers. The season seems to expand each year and they are available for longer. But you will have to move fast if you want to make the most of them this year – they won’t be around for much longer!’
Rodney Mark Johnson, McQueens senior florist chooses Mitford.
‘I love this bouquet of roses. Yes, they are available all year round but I think these vibrant summer colours are perfect for this time of year. I love the clean, bold look of Mitford, and it would be guaranteed to make anyone’s day!’
