A beautiful bouquet of flowers is a vital component to a special Mother’s Day – it’s as important as breakfast in bed, a slap up lunch in a favourite restaurant, or a hand-made card with felt tip and lashings of glitter. The latter is most successful when it’s been created by someone under the age of 10, it has to be said, but flowers should be a life long annual requirement that shows how much you care and a humble token to make recompense for any bad behaviour in those ‘difficult’ years.
Yes, beautiful flowers are a must for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and numerous other events, but often the most well-received flowers aren’t the ones you’ve brought to mark a red-letter day on the calendar. Yup, flowers will often help to build bridges when things go wrong and are an essential part of life – think birthday, thank you, anniversary, and get well and all those regular flower-buying occasions. But even better is the gift of unexpected flowers. Catch someone you care about off guard, completely unsuspecting, present them with some gorgeous flowers and see the response you get. Why? Because (as some clever cosmetic giant once noted) they are worth it!
With that in mind, we put a shout out on social media and helped a group of sons and daughters (including McQueens founder and MD Kally Ellis’ son Freddie) to surprise their mums with a gorgeous McQueens bouquet. In return, they kindly shared stories about their mum, which we are sharing in honour of Mums everywhere! Whilst the footage could have easily been knitted into a fourteen-hour mini-series we’ve edited it down and what is clear from this lovely project is that while a bouquet for Mother’s Day is an absolute MUST, handing someone you love a bunch of flowers when they least expect them is an awesome way to show that you care!
A huge thank you to Freddie, Shapla, Georgia and Oscar; we wish you all (and your mums!) a very happy Mother’s Day.
